           Our class is a HOOT!!

April 30, 2012

Dear Families,

“The White House” is the next selection we will read in our unit titled Home, Sweet, Home.  We will learn that the White House is an important American symbol and has been the home to many American presidents.  The White House is the most famous home in America, located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.

After your child has finished reading “The White House”  you may want to ask your child to think of a significant name for your home.  Many famous homes, like the White House, have special names that were given to them by the people who lived there.  Encourage your child to make a sign that includes your home’s special name and address.  Help him/her find a place in your home where the sign can be seen by visitors.

Your child will also read “Snail’s Pace,” a funny poem about snails and their homes.  Students will consider how a snail actually carries its home, or its shell, on its back.  After your child has read this selection, help him or her create a list of other animals that live in shells.
